How to Choose a Commercial Electrician in Birmingham

A power outage in the home is an annoying disruption, but even a short-term outage can really hurt the bottom line of businesses reliant on the uninterrupted flow of electricity. That’s why we take our role as commercial electricians serving Birmingham businesses so seriously. If we don’t do our job properly, our clients could grind to a halt.

We’re often asked how businesses can know whether or not they’re choosing well when it comes to electrical contractor services. So here’s our checklist. We hope that it helps to keep the cowboys at bay!!

1. Check the Reviews

Online trading has made it difficult to know who to trust, but reviews give you a clear indication of what to expect. You’re not just looking to see if electrical contractors finish the job on time (although that’s important!). You also want to know whether they arrived when they said they would, if they cleared up after themselves, and how accurate their quote was.

2. Take a Look at Case Studies

Any professional electrical contractor will have a range of case studies for you to peruse. You want to know what kind of jobs they’ve worked on, and who they’ve worked with. There should be a mix of environments, size of job, and tasks executed. If they’ve worked for a number of high profile jobs in the city, it’s a pretty good indication that they’re trusted by the sector.

3. Accreditations?

You would expect any commercial electrical contractor to have the following accreditations and memberships:

Any electrical contractor affiliated to the above bodies has been judged to have the competency, skills, and health & safety knowledge that makes them a safe pair of hands for your business.

4. Can They Work Work Alongside Construction Teams?

Often, commercial electrical contractors are required to work alongside other contractors. This requires teamwork, negotiation and effective scheduling to ensure that the project is served as well as fulfilling your part of it. It’s always worth seeking contractors’ references on jobs where collaborative working is at the heart of it – just to check if they’re up to the commercial demands.

5. How Experienced Is The Team?

Skills are crucial to every electrician, but experience is what makes you good at your job. If you’re looking for electricians who’ll rise to challenges, rather than waiting for someone else to solve them, you need a team with experience. A professional electrical contractor will have worked in domestic, industrial and commercial environments. And they’ll be equally comfortable changing a socket as carrying out a Cat B electrical fit out.

6. Are They a Team?

You want to know that you’re hiring a team that has worked together over at least a year. One electrician and a group of associates just won’t be able to offer the same quality of service. On a practical note, you want to be sure that your commercial electrician has the in house resources to respond to your needs, and that they’ll always be available if you need them in an emergency.

Contract Labour Services

We were lucky enough to work on the flagship Library of Birmingham installation for our client Emcor back in 2013. Since then we’ve worked on the impressive HSBC Headquarters in the city centre,  and the prestigious Resorts World near the NEC. As well as installation we regularly carry out commercial electrical maintenance, security system installation, and electrical testing.
